16:04: Sam Reinhart fired the puck in to put the Sabres back up by four. | BUF 6, NJ 2

19:02: Travis Zajac got the Devils on the board early in the third to make it a three-goal deficit, wiring a wrist shot short side. | BUF 5, NJ 2

SECOND PERIOD

0.0: After two, shots on goal were 12-5 for the Devils.

5:34: Hall was hit hard into the boards by Jake McCabe. Moments later, Simmonds dropped the gloves with the Sabres defenseman. Simmonds ended up with four minutes for roughing while McCabe got two for roughing. Result was another Sabres power play. Subban and Simmonds each got 10-minute misconducts as well.

6:27: Buffalo struck for its third power play goal of the night with 6:27 to go in the second. Olofsson’s shot from the right circle was blocked but the puck found its way back to him and he then blasted it by Blackwood to make it 5-1. | BUF 5, NJ 1

7:46: Coleman got called for tripping up Skinner. Shots on goal were 22-10 for the Sabres past the midway point of the second.

11:03: Off the rush, Skinner wired a shot high on Blackwood to put the Sabres up by three. | BUF 4, NJ 1

12:04: Eichel broke in all alone and went glove side but Blackwood made an outstanding save to keep the Devils in it.

13:09: Palmieri had multiple chances on the man advantage but Hutton came up big. Devils rattled off four consecutive shots.

15:08: Colin Miller got called for boarding to give the Devils their first power play of the night.

17:11: Kyle Okposo’s wrist shot from the point found its way through multiple screens past Blackwood to give the Sabres back their two-goal lead. | BUF 3, NJ 1

18:16: Blackwood slid across to deny Skinner on a rolling shot attempt.

19:23: EARLY RESPONSE! Kyle Palmieri redirected a feed from Taylor Hall past Hutton to get the Devils on the board only 37 seconds into the second period. Palmieri’s blast came from the hashmarks. | BUF 2, NJ 1

0.0: After one, shots on goal were 14-4 in favor of Buffalo.

2:34: Blackwood slid across to deny Jeff Skinner on a quick Sabres chance off the draw but Jack Eichel was at the doorstep to put home the rebound into the open cage and double Buffalo’s lead. | BUF 2, NJ 0

2:56: Blake Coleman got called for holding to give the Sabres their second power play of the night.

2:59: Wayne Simmonds just narrowly missed the net on a redirect in front, with the puck inching past the side.

7:41: With just under eight minutes to go in the first, shots on goal were 11-4 for the Sabres.

13:06: Sabres starting goaltender Carter Hutton made a pair of big stops, first on Jesper Boqvist from the slot and then on Nikita Gusev on the rebound.

15:00: Shots on goal five minutes into the game were 5-0 for Buffalo.

17:04: Jack Eichel threaded the puck over to Victor Olofsson at the top of the left circle and he made no mistake, ripping the puck past Devils starting netminder Mackenzie Blackwood for the power play goal. | BUF 1, NJ 0
