3:31: SAMI! Six seconds after the penalty expired, the Devils converted for the game’s first goal. Sami Vatanen’s centering attempt went off the skate of Coyotes defender Alex Goligoski. Jack Hughes and P.K. Subban got the assists. | NJ 1, ARI 0

4:44: Jakob Chycrun wired a shot off the cross-bar behind Devils netminder Mackenzie Blackwood.

5:37: Derek Stepan clipped Andy Greene with a high stick for a penalty only 28 seconds into the man advantage, negating the five-on-four.

6:06: Sami Vatanen received two minutes for interference to give the Coyotes the game’s first power play.

7:54: Shots on goal 8-3 in favor of the Devils.

8:58: Devils continued to carry the play with numerous chances and zone time. The best stop might have been at point-blank range off Wayne Simmonds as Raanta kicked out his right pad to make the stop.

16:15: Raanta made another big stop on a Blake Coleman deflection in front of the net.

16:54: Coyotes netminder Antti Raanta made a nice save on Kevin Rooney’s quick shot after a turnover gave him the puck at the bottom of the left circle.

18:45: Christian Dvorak and Phil Kessel skated in on a two-on-one and Damon Severson made a nice play sprawling along the ice to take the Dvorak pass away from him.
